Two Ingredient Apple Butter Pinwheels

The easy dessert recipe that uses things you have in your pantry! Twenty minutes start to finish for a vegan, dairy-free dessert with a gluten-free option.

Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Apple butter You may also use pumpkin butter
  • 1 package crescent roll dough or pizza dough gluten free if needed

Instructions

  1. Roll out crescent roll/pizza dough. Push together edges on crescent roll dough so that you have one sheet of pastry.

  2. Cut dough into 1/2 inch strips.

  3. Cover with apple butter, roll into pinwheels.

  4. Bake as crescent roll dough or pizza dough suggests, usually 13-15 minutes at 350 degrees.

It’s been stressful lately so these apple butter pinwheels happened.

Crawling 2 Handed has been living up to his name and getting into everything! It’s a miracle the house doesn’t look like a crime scene. He’s learned to find his books and take out all of them. He’s crawled under our coffee table like a spy to get things we thought we’d removed from his grasp. He’s discovered a secret tunnel only he can fit in behind the couch and that’s his new favorite place to hide things…like the remotes.

Bible study needed me to bring something.

I had apple butter. I had crescent roll dough. I had a plan.  These babies popped out, after keeping Crawling 2 Handed away long enough to remove them from the oven and let them cool I was determined to take pictures. My campaign to improve my photos has turned me into a crazy photographer type that mutters an awful lot about “The light.” I set out my photography props, I set the scene. These pinwheels are flaky, sweet, even buttery tasting (despite the dairy free  bonus!) The warm, melty apple butter is the perfect treat to celebrate fall.

I can’t help but laugh. He’s the perfect prop for this website’s photo shoot. The dairy free baby that started it all. I’m reminded that life won’t get less busy. There won’t ever be a perfect moment to get things done. I may have to stop what I’m doing from time to time. We live under God’s grace in this house. That means life’s imperfections are just fine. I want this to be a home where the right things are valued. That leaves no room for perfection and a lot for laughter and forgiveness. Have some with pumpkin spice lattes to enjoy fall with your family.

  1. They look great and would go well with my cup of tea in the AM. Do you think I could use raspberry preserves instead of the pumpkin butter? I did look up how to make pumpkin butter and it does not appear to be very hard.
